The 16 year old, taken into custody along with three people who have since been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Curtis Payne, has a hearing on Aug. 14. However, a date for a hearing to certify whether can be tried as a adult has not yet be scheduled, according to Greene County Chief Juvenile Officer Perry Epperly.
On Feb. 11, Payne was found dead in his home in the 2000 block of S. Dollison Ave. Court documents say one of the three adults charged in the case told officers during questioning that the 16-year-old fired the first shots at Payne.
According to court documents, Tyler Allen Keithley, 19, told investigators he was surprised when the boy fired at the victim. The group had confronted Payne in his bedroom with accusations he had assaulted Kearstain Sleeth, 23, who also is charged with second-degree murder in the case.
Court documents indicate Sleeth drove the car that took the juvenile, Keithley and Jeremiah Devaliti, 18, to the house on Dollison.
Sleeth has since posted her bond of $250,0000.
Keithley and Devaliti remain in the Greene County Jail under a bond of $500,000 each.
