GRANT COUNTY, Ark. - A suspect has died after police say he attacked an officer with a knife and was shot when a chase that began in North Little Rock ended on a Grant County road.
According to the North Little Rock Police Department (NLRPD), the suspect's vehicle came to a stop after it hit something as he continued his getaway by driving down Keg Mill Road.
A NLRPD officer then broke out the window of the suspect's car and a police K-9 jumped inside.
The dog, Zeus, was reportedly stabbed in the face multiple times by the suspect, who then got out of the vehicle and threatened the officer with the knife. That's when the NLRPD officer shot the suspect, whose name has not yet been released.
The NLRPD says the suspect was flown to UAMS in Little Rock and pronounced dead there.
Police say Zeus was taken for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Arkansas State Police will continue its investigation of the officer-involved shooting.

Officials say Jacksonville Police were searching for the suspect in regards to a domestic assault on the suspect's girlfriend. The girlfriend reportedly told police her boyfriend had assaulted her and then stolen her car.
Jacksonville Police sent out an alert on the stolen car, which was found by North Little Rock police in North Little Rock, where the chase began.
The chase went from North Little Rock into Grant County, where it ended off of Keg Mill Road where the suspect was shot by police.
Officials say a K-9 unit was injured in the incident by a knife. It is unclear how the dog was injured with the knife or what the dog's condition is at this time.
Arkansas State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting. It has not been confirmed who shot the suspect, as multiple police agencies were involved in the chase.
Officials say MedFlight was called to the scene for the suspect.
