Suspect Dies, Shot by NLR Police Officer after Chase

GRANT COUNTY, Ark. - A suspect has died after police say he attacked an officer with a knife and was shot when a chase that began in North Little Rock ended on a Grant County road.

According to the North Little Rock Police Department (NLRPD), the suspect's vehicle came to a stop after it hit something as he continued his getaway by driving down Keg Mill Road.

A NLRPD officer then broke out the window of the suspect's car and a police K-9 jumped inside.

The dog, Zeus, was reportedly stabbed in the face multiple times by the suspect, who then got out of the vehicle and threatened the officer with the knife. That's when the NLRPD officer shot the suspect, whose name has not yet been released.

The NLRPD says the suspect was flown to UAMS in Little Rock and pronounced dead there.

Police say Zeus was taken for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

Arkansas State Police will continue its investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
