SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Students at Cowden Elementary started back to school this week with a spruced-up playground.

Over the weekend, several volunteers with the non-profit group Better Life in Recovery helped paint and pick up trash at the playground.

Better Life in Recovery encourages recovering addicts to find ways to give back to the community.

Springfield Public Schools paid for the materials for the clean-up project.

Volunteers were there Saturday for about 9 hours.
