Storms Hit Missouri, Then Georgia

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Severe weather once again battered the Midwest and the South.  Wednesday, for the second time this week, the region was struck by a series of powerful storms.

As night fell, severe weather was still rolling through Scott County, Kentucky.
Another day of pounding rain and high wind battered the already water-logged area.

About a dozen tornados were reported in the Midwest and South over the last 48 hours, including the one in Goodman, Missouri.
Another one touched down in southwest Georgia.

"We gathered down here, and it was really bad because the tops of the homes started peeling off so it was a really serious storm," said Calvin Friedman of Weston, Georgia.

In Alabama, the barrage continued even when the rain had stopped.
Some parts were hit with baseball-sized hail.

The state's governor declared a state of emergency and deployed the national guard to help deal with the destruction.
The ferocity of the storms left many feeling lucky to be alive.

"And not one of us had a scratch. And I was right. Everything was okay.  We were all okay and I was right."

The turbulent weather also invaded the hallowed grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club.
Approaching storms led officials to cancel the final afternoon practice at the course - disappointing rain-soaked fans.

Round one of the Masters Tournament is slated to tee off there this afternoon.
