According to the Department of Defense release (below), Army Sgt. Joseph M. Peters, 24, of Springfield, died of injuries he received when his unit was attacked in the Zhari District on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Peters was assigned to the 5th Military Police Battalion in Vicenza, Italy. The Army's Criminal Investigation Command tells KOLR10 News Peters was assigned to the CID Special Operations unit, investigating felony level crimes involving the Army. Peters was the first special agent for CID to be killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, a spokesman told KOLR10.
Also killed in the explosion were 1st Lt. Jennifer M. Moreno, 25, of San Diego, Calif., Sgt. Patrick C. Hawkins, 25, of Carlisle, Pa., and Pfc. Cody J. Patterson, 24, of Philomath, Ore.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
They died Oct. 6, in Zhari District, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.
