Epifanio A. Chaidez, 36, of Springfield, is charged with three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, two counts of first-degree statutory rape and one count of second-degree statutory rape.
The abuse was reported to police on Aug. 16, 2014, however, a probable cause statement says Chaidez began abusing the girl in 2004, when she was 9 years old, and the abuse continued until she was 16.
The victim says she had “tons of fear” with Chaidez because she saw him physically abuse another family member.
She says when she was a sophomore in high school Chaidez told her “he wanted her to have his baby.”
When the victim was 16, she realized she was pregnant. She told police she hid her pregnancy and did not receive medical care or education related to the pregnancy, but told Chaidez.
Later, the victim says she had severe back pain for two days and didn’t know she was going into labor until her mother took her to the hospital.
After the baby was born, Chaidez told the victim to make up a story about the father, to say it was a foreign exchange student.
Chaidez is in the Greene County Jail under a $50,000 bond. If he posts bail, Chaidez is not allowed within 1,000 feet of the victim or any place where children congregate, or contact with children under 17. He will also be ordered under GPS monitoring with house arrest, along with traditional bond recommendations.
Chaidez faces a prison term of 10 years to life imprisonment for all first-degree charges.
