SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Fire Department received six free hearing-impaired smoke alarms on Monday.

The alarms were donated by the Code 3 Sertoma Club and Champion Safety.

The hearing-impaired alarms are louder than normal smoke alarms and have a strobe light attached to them.

Charity leaders were excited to help those in need.

"The mission of Sertoma as a whole is on speech and hearing,” says Mary Anne Rose, president of Code 3. “So we made our emphasis on providing the hearing impaired smoke alarms to try and impact our community in that way."

The Springfield Fire Department still has around 50 hearing impaired smoke alarms available for residents.
