MoDOT says the work is set to begin this week on the south side of the freeway, between Kansas Expressway and Campbell, separating the highway from the Quail Creek subdivision.
Noise along that stretch of James River increase after MoDOT added more lanes in direction in that area last year. MoDOT says a study of noise levels was done and the section of the freeway qualified for the walls
They walls will involve footings and concrete columns as well as the actual panels of the walls. A similar project was done several years ago along Highway 65 from Catalpa to near the Highway 60 interchange, to buffer housing developments near the highway.
The work will cause the closing of lanes at times, but the hours will be limited to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., to lessen the impact on heavy traffic hours.
The nearly $500,000 project is scheduled to be finished by early May.
