Sheriff Roye Cole, who investigated the Sunday shooting in Marshfield, told KOLR10 today that information from the man’s wife was the basis of the Marshfield Police Chief’s earlier statements that his officers had fired after they were fired upon.
After talking with the officers, Cole said, it was determined that the man pointed the gun at police, but did not fire. His actions and his threats to shoot the officers were justification for them firing at him, the sheriff said.
Charges likely will be filed against the man if he survives, Cole said. He remains in the hospital for treatment of the gunshot wounds. The man has not been named.
