SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Severe weather caused many disruptions last night, whether it was power outages by the thousands, downed tree limbs, property damage or a sleepless night.

"We woke up last night at about 1:15 am when the wind was blowing and there was some rain," says Harry Appleby, one of the thousands of people who lost power during the storm last night. "Shortly after that the power went out. I know everybody in our neighborhood lost power."

While many experienced these outages, others lost something that couldn't be restored as easily.

"About 2 o'clock this morning, I heard the wind start blowing real hard," says Charles Oritz, a local homeowner. "A little bit after that the tree came down."

Oritz was wide awake as the storm rolled through town and knocked a tree down into his home.

"It snapped off the base," says Oritz. "You can see where most of the damage was, where the tree hit the roof. It severed the power lines, knocked all the power out. It took the corner and of course it was raining then so water came in the kitchen."

Oritz isn't the only one who experienced a loss during the storms.

Rick Winslow, who works at Hale's Fireworks, says there was almost a total loss on two tents and 80 percent of their inventory in a week when they make most of their money.

"We have a lot of work to do," says Winslow. "We called Hales and they're going to bring us a new tent, because it ruined this tent, and they're going to bring us all new products."

The tent is expected to be open later tonight or tomorrow.
