Storms swept through Dunklin and New Madrid counties Monday, touching off flooding. Part of the town of Lilbourn was evacuated to get people to a safer area.
The American Red Cross has sent volunteers to help assess the damage and give flood victims shelter, food and other immediate needs.
The shelter is open at the New Madrid Community Center. The Red Cross says it will provide for the emergency needs of shelter and food as long as needed.
Mobile feeding routes are also being set up and will begin on Wednesday, April 30. Red Cross volunteers will deliver food into these areas to provide meals for those who are working to clean up after the waters recede.
Red Cross caseworkers will begin going door to door to find people who need help.
