Scammer Impersonates Sheriff's Office Employee

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Greene County Sheriff's Office is warning people to not be fooled by a scammer who's pretending to be a GCSO employee.

According to a release from the office, the caller claims to be Sgt. Kevin Price with the sheriff's office.

There is no Sgt. Kevin Price at the office.

The caller says your either missed your court date or you have a warrant for your arrest. The person then says that if you don't want to be arrested, you'll have to pay a fine with a prepaid credit card.

The sheriff's office says that if you get a call like this and you didn't call to report a crime or ask to be contacted by a deputy, hang up immediately.

If you have questions about if you have an outstanding warrant, you can visit the GSCO website, call them at 417-868-4040 or send them a message on Facebook.

It is a crime to impersonate law enforcement.
