Rolla Man Charged in 22-Year-Old Murder Case

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. – A Rolla man has been arrested in connection with a 22-year-old murder case, according to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department.

William Earl Harrison, 49, of Rolla, is charged with armed criminal action and first-degree murder for the death of Jerry Wayne King, who was found near the entrance to Gourd Creek Cave near County Rd. 7270 on July 8, 1992.

Harrison, who was 28 at the time, was arrested originally arrested for the murder, but was eventually released after numerous court proceedings.

Last year, the Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney requested Phelps County Sheriff Richard Lisenbe to look at the case.

The case was reassigned to the Criminal Investigative Unit, who was assisted by one investigator from the Prosecutors Office.

After numerous interviews and other examinations, the case was presented to a Phelps County Grand Jury who returned a true bill.

A warrant was issued for Harrison’s arrest and, on August 1, he was arrested.

Harrison is currently being held in the Phelps County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
