Just after 5 this morning, the Petsmart Charities Rescue Waggin' made its first pick up at the shelter.
It's a program that transports adoptable dogs from overcrowded shelters to shelters with more space and more opportunities for new homes.
"Down here, we haven't euthanized any dogs for space in a year and a half. But this will allow us to help the community by our intake department being shorter and being able to move animals through quicker," says Darin Landrum,
Executive Director, Humane Society of Southwest Missouri.
The first transport picked up 13 dogs and puppies that are being taken to Wisconsin .
Petsmart charities says more than 70 thousand dogs have been saved through the program since it started 10 years ago.
