CARTHAGE, Mo. -- A young girl fatally shot in Carthage earlier this month apparently died after being shot by another child, according to investigators.
Ten-year-old Sa'nya LaTrinity Faith Hill was pronounced dead at Joplin's Mercy Hospital on the night of Jan. 13 after officers found her unconscious in her Carthage home from a gunshot wound.
According to Carthage Chief of Police, Greg Dagnan, two children, aged 12 and 13, were in Hill's home at the time of the incident. Evidence indicates one of the children found a gun inside the residence and mishandled the weapon, causing Hill's death.
Carthage police were unable to interview the juvenile who supposedly was holding the gun at the time of the shooting per Jasper County Juvenile Office local policy. Both minors will not be named.
Forensic pathologists are continuing to process Hill's autopsy results.
No charges have been made at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
