Questionable Circus Posters Popping Up in Southwest Missouri

AVA, Mo.--Ava a town of less than 3,000 people thought it had something exciting coming when circus posters started popping up on buildings.

Mayor David Norman says, "The flyer says on it that there's going to be a circus in the parking lot of the community center and I say well the parking lot doesn't seem like a good place to have a circus so we started to try to find out about it."

What Mayor David Norman discovered was that Florida based company Majestic Star was planning on having a circus featuring people dressed in animal costumes and magic tricks at the Ava Community Center for kids 14 and under with adult admission costing $10.

Norman  says "I don't have anything against you making money, but you're not going to be able to make money in our city building. You've not made prior arrangements. If you're going to have things like that in the town, you need to come in and do your groundwork."

According to Majestic Star, they got approval from staff members at the Ava Community Center.

Chuy Castillo, Majestic Star General Manager says, "It sounds to me somebody dropped the ball there. Why would I take the privilege of promoting the town, find a location to put a show. Why would I spend money?"

Regardless of the 'he said she said', Workhorse Western Wear-one of the businesses that promoted the circus is now left to deal with disappointed customers.

Jeanie Miller, an employee of the business says,  "He came in with his father this little boy did and he got seven or eight of the tickets cause he wanted to go and tell his friends. I think it's very sad for the kids that wanted to go."

Majestic Star also promoted its circus at the community center in Mansfield. The Mansfield community center tells me that it too won't be having the circus in that city because of no prior approval from the company.

Majestic Star also promoted a circus event in Buffalo on Wednesday at the O'Bannon Community Center that will go on as scheduled.
