Postal Carrier Held at Knifepoint in Attempted Burglary

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--A man is in custody after holding a postal carrier at knifepoint.

Springfield Police say that they responded to the call at 10:28 am April 26 at 3433 S. Campbell at the Savannah Square shopping center when a local postal carrier called police reporting an attempted burglary.

The suspect armed with a hunting knife placed his arm inside the postal vehicle and held the knife to the carrier’s throat, demanding that the man let him into one of the business in the shopping center.

The victim knowing that he did not have access to this building asked the suspect to allow him to get out of his vehicle to let him into the business, this is when the carrier took the opportunity to slam the door and window shut on the vehicle and call the police.

When SPD arrived on the scene the suspect was trying to pry the door open to the business and had small cuts on his arms that were bleeding.

The victim was uninjured.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene without incident and was taken to the hospital for his injuries and a mental evaluation.

According to Police the man appeared to be intoxicated and suffering from mental issues.

Pending hospitalization for his injuries the suspect will be booked in Greene County jail awaiting charges.
