He was stopped by police when he arrived at school.
They found an unloaded handgun and two magazines containing 16 rounds of ammunition in Shockley's backpack.
Shockley admitted to stealing the weapon.
He said he was carrying it for protection.
He is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and carrying an unloaded fire arm onto school property.
His bond is set at 25,000 dollars.
