GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- A family pleaded for help Monday in hopes of solving a 2012 murder.

In March of 2012, 27-year-old Jamie Richardson was found dead in the James River just east of Springfield. Authorities believe someone murdered Richardson.

Monday, the Greene County sheriff and Richardson's parents and daughter asked the public for help.  Sheriff Jim Arnott said there are people who know what happened, and he's asking them to come forward.

Barbara Richardson, Jamie's mother, said, "We just can't have closure.  We can't put it behind us.  Not that it will ever be behind us, but at least the kids will have some closure and our family will have closure, and we will know that Jamie's case has been solved and we've done everything we can for him.  You know, it's just like it happened yesterday.  People may think two years have gone by, get over it, move on.  Let me tell you, it's just not that way.  It seems to get worse."

Sheriff Arnott said an additional investigator has been assigned to the case.
