HARRISON, Ark. – An Oregon man was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri morning after his 1964 Piper Tin Comanche airplane crashed at Boone County Regional Airport in Harrison.

George Atiyeh, 66 of Lyons, Oregon, was listed in serious condition with “significant injuries” after the plane went down in a field on the west end of the runway, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s office.

Investigators were still on the scene at mid-day, but initial findings are that the plane left Runway 36 traveling north and when attempting a left turn went down in the field.

Atiyeh was the only person on board the aircraft at the time, the sheriff’s office said.

The National Transportation and Safety Board was contacted and the scene will turned over to that agency once they arrive on the scene.
