BOLIVAR, Mo.-- Participants were warming up today during the Polar Bear 5K run in Bolivar, Mo.

The 35th Annual Polar Bear 5K and 10K hosted by the YMCA in Bolivar had runners sprinting for the finish line in low temperatures Feb. 15.

The length of the course went from the SBU Student Union to Pike Street adjacent to Plaster Stadium on the SBU campus, winds through residential neighborhoods and Bolivar trails, to finish at the starting point.

Runners received a sweatshirt and competed for awards in various age divisions in the 10K, 5K, and one mile events.

Beginning in 1979, the Polar Bear Run is the oldest continuous road race in Southwest Missouri. Traditionally, the race attracts runners from Kansas City, St. Louis, Central Mo. and other neighboring states.

Awards were presented to the top three in each division for overall male and female, with ribbons to the first 10 winners.

All proceeds benefit the 2014 Financial Assistance Annual Campaign.
