SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Ozark Mountain Daredevils will be the band performing at the Gilloiz Theater in August for the Route 66 Festival.

The Annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival has grown into a two-day celebration that offers a little something for everyone, ranging from a 5K run to a drive-in movie to a vintage car show.

The West Central Neighborhood Alliance partners with the City, Urban Districts Alliance, and the Springfield Park Board to plan the event.

"Not many people know Springfield is the birthplace of Route 66,” says City of Springfield Spokesperson Cora Scott. “It was decided here actually right across from the Gilloiz in what was the old Colinial Hotel that they would name the famous roadway from Chicago to LA route 66. So we are the official birthplace of that and the city, along with many other partners, is doing everything we can to celebrate that heritage and encourage revitalization of that."

You may recall that ground was broken last month for the roadside park that will be on College Street.

The Route 66 concert is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
