MISSOURI -- Millions of Americans are hitting the road for the 4th of July weekend.  In Missouri, you won't run into road construction along the way.

MoDOT is suspending highway construction and maintenance work to accommodate the increase in traffic this weekend.

All contract crews will be off the roads starting Thursday at noon.

Jim Conley, MoDOT engineer, says the only time you may see crews is if there's an accident or an emergency.

"The main reason is we don't want to impact travelers. Usually prior to a holiday and after a holiday the traffic is the worst."

Some lane and road closures will still remain in place. Crews will resume work Monday morning.
