Starting today, anyone meeting the aforementioned qualifications can come to Nixa’s City Hall to get a voucher for a free weather alert radio. Receiving the vouchers are on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be redeemed at the Nixa Fire Protection District Headquarters at 301 S. Nicholas. The radios will be programmed there free of charge.
“We’re proud to help keep the community safe for the second year in a row,” Mayor-Elect Brian Steele says in a news statement. “It’s so important that our citizens stay informed and safe during severe weather.”
Anyone wishing to pick up one of the radios must bring photo identification with a birth date as well as a Nixa Utility bill (the address on the ID and bill must match). Only one radio will be given out per household.
Nixa City Hall hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Weather Alert Radios were purchased at cost from the Nixa Fire Protection District with funds from a grant the city of Nixa received from the Nixa Wal-Mart (Wal-Mart Foundation).
