According to a news statement, if half-cent sales tax increase is approved, it would generate $7.7 million over the next 10 years to fund projects Nixa citizens have deemed important.
Those projects include:
- A new community park at Northview & Gregg Road
- Improvements to existing Rotary Park and addition of a skate park
- Improvements to the US 160 and Hwy 14 intersection (a cost-share with MoDOT)
- Sidewalk additions that would connect schools, parks, and neighborhoods
The increase would bring that rate up to 7.975 percent.
As it stands right now, the city of Nixa receives 1.5 percent of the sales tax collected. The rest goes to the state, Christian County, and 911.
The total increase would amount to 1 cent for every $2 spent or 50 cents on every $100 purchase.
