NIXA, Mo. -- Nixa High School had a rally for students with special needs on Tuesday. The event was called, "Nixa Eagles Soaring Together." This was the inaugural rally.
High school athletes and students with special needs competed alongside each other in three events. The night included a meal for participants, team building activities, a parade of champions and a medal ceremony.
The focus for the evening for all involved was to recognize the similarities they all have despite any disabilities or differences. There were 80 participants and more than 200 students and volunteers.
"I think anytime you can offer something fun for the kids and the community and incorporate some things that they love, whether it's sports, athletics, or music or whatever the case may be and just showcase that we are a lot more similar than some realize it sometimes," said Karen McKnight, Executive Director Of Special Services.
The community was invited to support and cheer on everyone in the competitions.
