Many National Parks will be waiving entrance fees during the first weekend of National Park Week, April 19-27.
"If you have never visited Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, this would be an excellent time to come out and experience a treasure", according to park superintendent Ted Hillmer. "These are your national parks that are being preserved for you and the future generations."
During the weekend of April 19 and 20, Wilson's Creek National Battlefield will join the 401 national park areas to waive the usual $5.00 per individual or $10.00 per vehicle entrance fee.
National Junior Ranger Day is set for Saturday April 26 where a variety of activities for young people are planned at the visitor center between 10 am and 3 pm where participants can earn their official Junior Ranger badge or patch. The Junior Ranger activities are free.
Wilson's Creek National Battlefield preserves and commemorates the battle fought on August 10, 1861 and is administered by the National Park Service, the 1,920-acre battlefield is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, Missouri at the intersection of ZZ Highway and Farm Road 182.
