National Guard Helping Storm Victims in Vilonia, Ark

FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. -- Approximately 46 members of the Arkansas National Guard have been called to state active duty this evening to assist local authorities in the hard hit communities of Mayflower and Vilonia.

The first units were notified around 10 p.m., on Sunday, April 27, 2014, after the Arkansas National Guard received a request for support from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.  The requests were for manpower to assist local authorities in manning traffic control points and for Field Ambulances to assist in transporting casualties out of the impacted areas.

The troops and equipment are being routed to support local authorities in both Mayflower and Vilonia.

Currently the Arkansas National Guard is supporting with the following:

            -3-HMMVE - Field Litter Ambulance + 6 personnel - Vilonia

            -3-HMMVE - Field Litter Ambulance + 6 personnel - Mayflower

            -7-HMMVE - + 14 personnel - Mayflower

            -8-HMMVE - + 16 personnel - Vilonia

            -4 personnel are added to assist local authorities with Guard Command and Control at on scene command centers.

Units supporting these missions are the 87th Troop Command and the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Additional support missions are anticipated as the total scope of the disaster is assessed.  Additional information, and updates will be released as the Guard’s support role changes.
