FORSYTH, Mo. - A southwest Missouri murder case will be featured on a cable television program this weekend.
The Sunday evening broadcast of “On the Case with Paula Zahn” will focus on the 2011 murders of Russell and Rebecca Porter, who were kidnapped from their home in Willard, Missouri and shot to death near Cedarcreek in Taney County.
The show will air at 9 p.m. Central time Sunday, July 23rd, on the Investigation Discovery channel.
In a release announcing the TV program, Taney County Prosecutor Jeff Merrell saod the investigation into the disappearance of the Porters was initiated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, but "ultimately became a collaborative effort among numerous law enforcement agencies - primarily the sheriff’s departments in Taney and Greene Counties and the Missouri State Highway Patrol."
Five defendants were eventually convicted for their involvement in the murders, including Tony Friend, Windy Friend, Dusty Hicks, Phillip Friend and Robert Campbell, an uncle of Russell Porter.
The Investigation Discovery website describes the show as “when a newlywed couple mysteriously disappears, police must piece together a shocking trail of betrayal.”
