Heat Advisory Extended Through Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- High heat and humidity will hang on for a few more days in southwest MIssouri, prompting National Weather Forecasters to keep a heat advisory in place until 7pm Wednesday.

The heat advisory is in effect until 7pm Wednesday for these counties in southwest Missouri:
Benton-Morgan-Miller-Maries-Vernon-St. Clair-Hickory-Camden-Pulaski-Phelps-Barton-Cedar-Polk-Dallas-Laclede-Texas-Dent-Jasper-Dade-Greene-Webster-Wright-Newton-Lawrence-Christian-Douglas-Howell-Shannon-McDonald-Barry-Stone-Taney-Ozark-Oregon Counties.

Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 90s and low 100s. Heat index values will range from 100 to 107 each afternoon through Wednesday.

The cumulative effects of multiple days of afternoon heat index values above 100 degrees will result in an increased risk of heat related illnesses.
Young children, the elderly and those without access to air conditioning will be particularly at risk.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are

According to the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, the following locations are open as cooling centers as long as the Heat Advisory is in effect:

All lobbies have seating, restroom access and air conditioning. No formal programming is planned.

Lobbies are open during regular business hours.

Most Park Board outdoor pools are now closed for the season, but Fassnight and Grant Beach Pools reopen for Labor Day weekend. Jordan Valley Park’s Ozark Stream and Fountain remains on, with fountain shows every hour on the hour, providing a free fun place for the public to cool off.
