More Planned Parenthood Clinics Come to Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo.(KODE/KSNF) - This month two more Planned Parenthood clinics in Missouri will offer abortion services.

The Columbia and Kansas City area Planned Parenthood will offer medication and surgical termination options.

Both clinics passed a health inspection.

Clinics in Joplin and Springfield are currently waiting to be inspected and training to offer medication abortions.

"So this is abortion by a pill, and we hope to provide that in both Springfield and Joplin no later than the end of this year and hopefully much sooner. We will look at the issue of surgical care at Springfield later," said President & CEO Planned Parenthood St. Louis & SWMO Mary Kogut.

Planned Parenthood officials say about one-third of women in Missouri use the medication for an abortion.

Women in Joplin and Springfield will still be required to meet with the same physician administering the pill for a consultation 72 hours before taking it.
