SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Christmas tradition continues tonight in Springfield with the Mayor's Tree Lighting Ceremony at Jordan Valley Park.

The 33-foot Norway Spruce kicks off an annual evening of holiday celebration. Mayor Bob Stephens will have help from hundreds of 1st and 2nd graders as he lights the tree at 5:30 p.m. this evening.

There are several events after the ceremony to continue the celebration. Mediacom Ice Park will have free ice skating ($2.50 skate rentals) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Children's Choirs of Southwest Missouri will be performing and there will be a mini parade to Hammons field.

Children and families can enjoy hot cocoa and candy canes and watch a fireworks show presented by the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field.
