(Republic, MO) -- A sixth grader at Republic Middle School is recognized by the U.S. Marines for her contributions to Toys for Tots.
Maci McReynolds has contributed for several years, but this year she included a note that apparently moved the Marines to the point that they felt she deserved some recognition.
The Marines, her parents, and her classmates all attended to see her receive her plaque. But what's so special about the assembly is that Maci had no idea she was being recognized.
"My teacher came up to me and she's like, 'will you walk with me to the auditorium?' and I'm like, 'ok, I'm just talking to my friends and I wonder why,' and then they started talking about Toys for Tots and the letter and then I knew that I was going to be going up in front of everybody."
Maci's story shows the type of holiday spirit that the Marines and Toys for Tots are all about this time of year. She says even if you think you don't have a good life, there's always someone out there who's worse off than you.
She'll be 12 years old on Christmas and she's been contributing to Toys for Tots since she was three.
