SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The 4th of July is only days away and on Monday some special residents at Maranatha Village Retirement Community received recognition.

Maranatha Village took special measures to honor its residents who served have our country. A military color guard from VFW Post 3404 helped lead a procession through the halls at the retirement community.

Each resident veteran was presented with a special medallion and flag to be permanently displayed outside the resident’s door.

Doug Blauvelt, the facility’s administrator, says it’s important to the veterans to know they are not forgotten, “They get here and give-up some of the other freedoms they used to have in their life….driving cars and stuff like that.”

He adds that the commemoration helps show veterans that others acknowledge the price they paid to ensure freedom today and also shows them they are not forgotten.

Maranatha Village is a Christian retirement community operated by the Assemblies of God Church.
