Man Taken Into Custody After Shooting Cousin in Springfield Home

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police were dispatched to a Kum N Go on the east side of Springfield at 10:30 in the morning on Saturday of a report that a man is there with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to Lieutenant Robert Byrne, the man was shot at a home on the 900 block South Abbey Court in Springfield this morning then walked to the gas station. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers responded to the residence for a possible armed male suspect and set up a perimeter around the home.  Upon arrival, Lt. Byrne says police contacted a male and female inside the home that were not directly involved in the shooting, but witnessed part of the incident. Shortly after, the male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Everyone involved in the incident were family related. The male witness is the father of the suspect and the female witness is the girlfriend of the suspect. The victim and suspect are cousins.
