SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 33-year-old Nixa man fleeing from police went off the roadway just west of Springfield early Friday and struck a utility pole, sending him to CoxSouth hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the man failed to negotiate a curve a half mile west of town at Farm Road 178 and Ozynard Drive and his 2005 Nissan Altime went off the road and struck the pole about 1 a.m.

Springfield Police Maj. Kurt Manlove said the man was weaving the street and was believed to be driving impaired. He had sped away when officers attempted a traffic stop.

He is currently hospitalized and has not yet been cited, Manlove said.
