Man Charged in Shaking Death of 3 Month-Old Daughter

SPRINGFIELD Mo.-- The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office charged 26 year-old Matthew E. Handlang of Springfield with abuse of a child resulting in death Jan. 17 after he confessed to shaking his 3 month-old daughter.

On Dec. 18 2013, Battlefield Rescue responded to call in regards to an infant not breathing.

Deputies responded to Cox South Hospital in regards to the child’s rescue where the victim, a three month old female was admitted to Cox South Hospital.

The infant passed away at Cox South on Dec. 20, 2013 due to the injuries sustained.

Handlang admitted to detectives that he shook his daughter several times then the infant went unconscious.

An autopsy was performed in Columbia on Dec. 23 2013, with Greene County Detectives present.

On Jan. 17 Greene County Detectives conducted follow-up interviews with the parents at the Sheriff’s Office, where Handlang admitted to the crime.

The bond is set at $100,000
