Make-A-Wish Grants Boy Shopping Spree for Birthday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - 10-year-old Jacob got a surprise for his upcoming birthday Friday before he heads to the St. Jude’s Children's Research hospital in Memphis on Monday.

Jacob will receive treatment for medulloblastoma, which is cancer of the brain.

To make up for missing his birthday, both Academy Sports and the Make-a-Wish foundation threw him a party including a shopping spree for anything his heart desired.

“Just kind of gives them something to take away the stress from hospitals, the needles, all that to kind of give them a sense of normalcy,” Kathie Lorsheider of the Make-A-Wish Foundation says.

“At first I didn't know what Make-A-Wish was,” Jacob says. “Then I found out that Make-A-Wish would, do your wishes.”
