SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Your letter carrier normally leaves something for you at the mailbox, but this weekend they would love to get something in return.

It's time again for the nation-wide Stamp Out Hunger campaign and letter carriers announced the details Thursday.

If you leave a bag of non-perishable food items inside or near the mailbox on Saturday, May 10, the letter carriers will collect that food and send it to a local food bank.

"We see the need six days a week; we're out there every day and see the people struggling and hurting and need help,” says Harold Cunningham, a letter carrier and food drive coordinator. “This is our way to give back. We go to houses every day and we can pick it up. It's an easy way for everybody to help so help us help the community."

To date, more than 1.3 billion pounds of food have been collected since Stamp Out Hunger began in 1993.
