SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield charitable organization, The Kitchen. is cutting two of its programs.

A release from the organization says Maggie's Boutique and Fresh Start will close by the end of March.

Maggie's is a thrift store and Fresh Start receives and distributes used household items.
Both benefit residents of the Missouri Hotel.

But the organization says its cutting them because those services are duplicated in the Springfield community.

The Kitchen says these closings will allow the organization to focus more of its efforts and funding on housing solutions to end homelessness.

Notice posted on The Kitchen's website:

Maggie’s Boutique and Fresh Start to close, housing programs to expand
SPRINGFIELD, MO (FEB.5,2014)-The Kitchen Inc. is closing Maggie’s Boutique and Fresh Start by the end of March because these services are duplicated within the Springfield community. This will allow The Kitchen, Inc. to focus more of its efforts and funding on housing solutions to help end homelessness in our area.
Based on national best practices highlighted by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the Missouri Housing Development Commission, as well as the local successes of our own clients, The Kitchen, Inc. is emphasizing Housing First, Rapid Rehousing and Home at Last (supportive services for Veteran families) in our delivery of services. These efforts have been proven to help end chronic homelessness and speed the transition to permanent housing for singles, families and youth.
