Item: The perfect intersection of nostalgia, purpose and content, Reading Rainbow started a crowdsourced funding campaign on Kickstarter to bring literacy awareness to the new, connected generation of kids—a generation that can swipe a touchscreen but lacks simple, early developmental motor skills. It reached its lofty one million dollar goal in just under 12 hours.

Why it Matters: This is a generation that has never known a world without the Internet, and now content is starting to embrace that idea. Taking a fundamental program like Reading Rainbow and adapting it to the new age of connectivity and immersion shows that it’s possible for anyone to make the transition—and that they need to.
