JOPLIN, Mo.--- Joplin's new interim City Manager is Sam Anselm, who finds himself picking up the pieces two days after the termination of Former City Manager Mark Rohr.

Anselm is working to take over all the projects that Former City Manager Rohr left behind. Thursday, he met with Joplin's master developer, Wallace Bajjali, to receive updates on some of their ongoing redevelopment efforts. All of the recent changes still leave the people of Joplin wondering what's to come in the next few weeks.

"The city's in good shape financially. Like I said, we've got a great staff, a good team of employees to be able to implement the projects that council approves. I feel quite comfortable with where we're at," said Sam Anselm, Joplin Interim City Manager.

Sam Anselm has been the assistant city manager since April of 2011 and will now serve as interim city manager, replacing Mark Rohr.

"We're an organization of 550 employees. We all have an important role in making sure that we're serving the needs of our residents. I don't see any drop in the level of service that we'll be able to provide residents," said Anselm.

He's been spending the past couple of days catching up on projects that were started under Rohr's direction.

"A team's been in place to work on redevelopment efforts," said Anselm.

Plans for the newly funded police and fire training facility are also beginning as planned.

"It still continues. We're working with the engineering firm right now. I believe we're still working with securing an architect and designer to actually design the facility," said Anselm.
Anselm adds, he feels the city should continue doing business with Master Developer Wallace Bajjali.

"They're doing their part to present the items and get the leg-work done for us. I'm still working on the process for all the different projects that they're working on, but to this point, I haven't seen any issues to be concerned about," said Anselm.

Council members will discuss filling the city manager position permanently during a work session Monday evening. Master Developer Wallace Bajjali will also present an update of ongoing projects at that meeting. Anselm expects to hear reports on current construction projects.
