Increased Fire Danger Today in far SW Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A strong area of low pressure will track east across Kansas today and into western Missouri by this evening.

Strong southerly winds will develop today ahead of the low with speeds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts of 25 to 35 mph possible.

Red Flag Warning for significant fire weather risk in Vernon-Barton-Jasper-Newton-McDonald counties from 2pm through 9pm Monday evening.

The gusty winds will combine with humidity levels dropping into the mid 20s later this afternoon over southwest Missouri into extreme southeast Kansas to produce a significant fire danger. A
The elevated fire weather conditions will continue into Wednesday and Thursday this week with the dry air mass continuing.
