That next shot carries even more weight at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf Tournament-- it's one of the few times where golfers play as a team.
Most professional tournaments are played at one course, with golfers competing individually for the lowest score.
But this year's Legends of Golf Tournament is unlike any other tournament in professional history-- it's a two-man team competition played at two different golf courses-- and to top that off, it features the first-ever professional golf event to use a par-3 course.
Eighty-four golfers from the Champions Tour will play 54 holes over the next three days.
Day one and two will comprise of 36 holes at two courses-- one round at Buffalo Ridge, a traditional 18-hole golf course, and two rounds at Top of The Rock, a 9-hole par three course. At Buffalo Ridge, teams will play the first nine holes by alternating shots, taking turns hitting the ball, up until the ball is in the cup. The second nine holes at Buffalo Ridge will be played as best ball, playing individually and recording the lowest score among each team for each hole. At Top of the Rock, the same format will be played. The first round will be played as alternate shots, while the second round will be played as best ball.
Every drive, chip, and putt will count through the last day of play at Top of the Rock-- all of the pressure will fall on this final round.
There will be two winning teams-- one for the Champions Division, those ages 50-65, and another for the Legends Division, those 65 and older.
Those who claim the number one spots will get the largest portion of the $2.75 million purse-- the rest will be divided among the other teams.
Whether it be driving for show, or putting for dough, the tournament's unique concept will keep the players on their toes.
Since the tournament was cancelled today, tournament officials said spectator tickets will be honored at the same golf course tomorrow.
