Hometown Hero: Triker on a Mission to Help Others

OZARK, Mo. -- Sheri Ducker and her husband Jerry are more than just parents, grandparents and great grandparents -- they're "trikers" whose mission is to help others.

They're members of the Brothers of a Third Wheel. It's a national organization that has members who meet on a regular basis and ride to raise money for those in need.

Sheri also volunteers for many other community organizations and does a lot on her own. She works to help children, veterans, the homeless -- anyone who needs a helping hand.

Years ago, Sheri was left a single parent responsible for raising her seven children alone. She lived in a small town in Oklahoma and says the community came together to help her and her children along.

"I cannot pay those individuals back, but I can do for other people and I call it 'play it forward," Sheri said. "You give from your heart. That's the most important thing."

Sheri has Lupus and needs an oxygen tank, but she does not let that slow her down. She said she became sick last March and almost died.

"My goal was please, please let me live long enough to ride that trike and enjoy it. But that was my goal is ride that trike and have fun."

Because Sheri gives so much of what she has to others, she didn't get the trike she wanted for so many years...until now. She rides the trike often and even has a special compartment for her oxygen.

Whether she's on her trike going to an event to raise money or volunteering to feed the homeless, Sheri hopes to accomplish one thing each day: bring a smile to people's faces.

"The smile on their face, to know that maybe a brought a moments happiness to them or took a moment of their tragedy away."

The Duckers together have 11 children, 37 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. Sheri says she takes her family on trike rides and hopes to instill her belief in giving to her grandchildren.

"When I leave this earth I want people to remember me that I've tried to help people."
