SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Dry, windy weather conditions combine again Friday to create an elevated risk for fire across much of Missouri.

The National Weather Service warns of the fire danger:

A warm and dry airmass remains in place across the region. This will result in afternoon relative humidity values will fall into the 25 to 30 percent range across extreme southeastern Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks.

Sustained west southwest winds between 10 and 15 mph and gusts to around 25 mph are expected into early this afternoon. During the mid to late afternoon hours. However, wind speeds are expected to decrease as a cold front moves into the region from the northwest.

Fires in these conditions will have the potential to quickly grow and spread...especially in grassland areas.
