The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging hospitals to use a new checklist to improve the way antibiotics are prescribed. A new CDC report says doctors at some hospitals prescribe three times as many antibiotics as doctors at other hospitals to treat similar symptoms. The report also says some antibiotics are being over-prescribed, and others, under-prescribed.
And a new study in the British Medical Journal says pregnant women who eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains, and drink enough water, are far less likely to deliver a premature baby. European researchers came to this conclusion after checking the diets of 66-thousand expectant moms between 2002 and 2008. (source: British Medical Journal)
