That's according to a new study published in the American Heart Association journal "Stroke."
Researchers in Taiwan looked at the health records of more than 85,000 people.
They found that, over four years, people diagnosed with insomnia were 54-percent more likely to be hospitalized by a stroke.
Findings show the risk seems particularly dangerous for young adults.

Researchers at the University of Michigan are using Twitter to track the effects of migraines.
They poured through almost 22,000 tweets migraine sufferers sent during their painful attacks.
Among the study's findings:
Women sent almost three-quarters of the migraine tweets.
In the U.S., migraine complaint tweets spiked at 9 am and again at 8 pm eastern on weekdays.
And the most common day for migraines? Monday!
