Seeing family and friends can help children who are hospitalized. Doctors at UC Davis Children's hospital set up video-conferences for young patients and their friends and family. They found stress levels were lower for children who could visually communicate with loved ones.
And the American Academy of Pediatrics reports children with ADHD are more likely to develop substance abuse problems. Many children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are treated with stimulant medication which researchers say has the potential for misuse and addiction.
They also point out, children with ADHD are often approached to sell, buy or trade medications. The report suggests more monitoring and guidance for these children.
