New research suggests signs of depression could predict the onset of dementia. Previous studies have shown a link between the two conditions, but it wasn't clear how they were related. Researchers in Chicago found patients who had more severe symptoms of depression experienced a more rapid decline in their thinking and memory skills.
And tree nuts may help protect against diabetes. Researchers in Canada found eating two servings a day of tree nuts - such as almonds and cashews -- helped people with type two diabetes lower and stabilize their blood sugar levels. The best results were seen when tree nuts replaced refined carbohydrates rather than saturated fats.
